WEIGHTED BLANKETS

What is a weighted blanket?

We refer to these amazing blankets as "weighted blankets" because they are filled with poly beads that actually make them have weight. The purpose of a weighted blanket is to give the feeling of "being hugged" when wrapped in one, which is also called deep pressure touch stimulation. This is very helpful for individuals that have experienced trauma, have sensory needs or special needs indicating the need for deep pressure touch stimulation. We've seen fantastic results within the families we work with.  We are blessed to be able to offer these blankets to those in need!

What we do

We are SO excited to offer these blankets at no cost to families local to Northwest Ohio that apply to receive one. We are sorry for the inconvenience but we are not able to service families outside of our local region at this time.
We have amazing groups of ladies that show love by volunteering their time and efforts to make them. We collect donations to cover the poly beads and fabrics. Our weighted blankets are available in weight increments of 3lbs, 5lbs, 8lbs, and 10lbs. When choosing a size, it is recommended that the blanket weight be 10% of the person's body weight. Currently, we offer these to kids in foster care, kinship care, those adopted, and reunifying families. We also offer them to the trafficking survivors.

Application for weighted blanket:

Please complete the application to the best of your ability.

If there are confidentiality concerns, you may use initials of first or last name.
    Caregivers address
Where is the child from? (county in which case is opened)
The weight determines appropriate blanket weight.
May include diagnoses, behaviors related to trauma, or special needs resulting in need for weighted blanket.
Example: My foster child has difficulty sleeping due to a history of night time trauma. He is restless and needs comforted throughout the night. Our therapist recommended a weighted blanket.
This will help us determine which blanket to choose based on the child's needs and preferences. Calm/neutral will help comfort and soothe a child, while colorful/patterened blankets may be overstimulating to some.
Please clarify if foster, adoptive, kinship caregiver, caseworker, or other.
Please include area code as well as extension if applicable.
This is how we will get back with you.

*At this time, we can not offer a shipping or return policy.  We also cannot guarantee that weighted blankets will be available at time of application, as they are in high demand and crafted by volunteers only. If you do not qualify for a weighted blanket from Children's Lantern, we suggest searching online for your nearest store that has them available. Sorry for the inconvenience.
