Pachacutec, Peru

2017 Scholarship Recipients

Feeding kids every single day! Food for their belly's and minds too.   We wire money to Peru every 6 months— January and June to cover the cost of food for 24 kids to eat every day. Then once a year (in July) we also wire the funds for school scholarships we provide.

Read below to find out more and HOW to get involved.

SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
We provide 24 kids with school scholarships each year. There are 8 age/grade levels that the kids are in from 4yrs to 6th grade, with one child receiving half of their tuition paid for the school year and two children receiving a quarter of it paid. They have 10 months in their school year.

FEEDING
Children’s Lantern has supported the kids in Pachacutec, Peru for a few years now. We have been feeding kids through the dining hall (and the library etc) as you probably remember. The cost to keep those kids eating each day is $1800 every 6 months. Not too bad really! Pastor Sergio and Felicitas are doing a fantastic job at taking diligent care of the funds we are sending.

What we do:
24 kids at $2300 a year (School)
The COOLEST thing about this project... the money we send for school is given in scholarship form. We are working WITH these families to send their kids to school and not causing dependency. The kids and families have to fall within certain (attainable) guidelines to be awarded the scholarship. The school in Pachacutec that we work with has 8 grade levels and we give 3 scholarships per grade level: one FULL scholarship and two HALF scholarships are awarded per grade level = 24 kids.

24 kids at $3600 a year (Feeding)
There are sweet families with great kids who get to eat lunch everyday because we send them the money to purchase food. They have a great lunch lady that cooks balanced, nutritional food using local markets and their best resources. We've seen their books and tracking. We've smelled the yummy cook meals... but that's not all. They are teaching the kids personal hygeine too! They work with them to brush their teeth, wash their hands, pray before their meal, and then AFTER, they head to the library (that we've given a suitcase of books in Spanish and English) where they read for a certain amount of time. Food for their life, belly and mind.
What we need:
We are in need of 14 more people to commit to sponsoring a child for $15 per month or $180 a year... and the past donors to consider sponsoring their kiddos for another year.

That is .50 cents a DAY.

With doing our 2018 Budget with our Board of Directors, this is one project that doesn't sustain itself and funds are not directly coming in for. Would you pray about supporting one of these with us? EVERY PENNY you give goes directly to these kids! We WILL be taking routine trips to Pachacutec too! You could visit and see with your own eyes as well.

If you have questions OR you would rather commit to your sponsor a child(ren) with a monthly or yearly check sent to our office, please let us know! Email KATE here. Otherwise, click on the MONTHLY SPONSORSHIP button below and head over to our GIVE page. Right now, we have 10 of the 24 kids sponsored officially. Are you the next? We would love to add you to our special Peru email update list too!
yes! Count me in!
I want to sponsor a child!

A letter from Pastor Sergio...

I am thankful to God for having put you in my path. You are people that love God and your neighbor. You are a blessing not only in my life, but in the lives of many others, such as these boys and girls that are studying at Gamaliel School. They are blessed in a special way.

For all the work you have done, may God strengthen you, bless you, and make all that you do prosper. May the Most High Lord show you favor, protect you, and care for you.

May this, God's promise, be with all of you: "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” ~Deut 31:8

Sergio

The cost of schooling in Peru isn’t much but many of the families travel far outside the city just to find work. The cost of travel and daily needs doesn’t leave much room for education. This is when our sponsorship program started. Kids like Brandon are able to read their way to a sponsorship. Brandon’s tuition and food is provided for as long as he spends the required time in the library. The morals and life skills their teachers and pastor provide are equipping them for a successful future.

Such a SPECIAL NOTE from the kids!

This sheet has each child's signature (or fingerprint, in the case of the youngest ones) and a brief note. Here's a translation of the opening paragraph and a key for translating some of their messages for you:

We are thankful because you are all good people who help us and bless us, and we are praying for all of you, asking God to protect and bless you. Thank you all.
Oro por ustedes = I am praying for you
Los quiero mucho = I love you all very much
Son buenas personas = You are good people
Estás/n en mi corazón = You are in my heart
Que Dios los proteja = May God protect you
